ARTIST MICHAEL KOPPLSTÄTTER

Michael Kopplstätter (born in 1996 in Hohenems, Austria) lives and works in Dornbirn, Austria.

His large-format oil paintings are part of a new generation of international artists who explore figuration and its abstraction. 

In his works, mysterious bodies and body language evoke images of contemporary dancers.

He initially studied architecture but soon abandoned those studies in favor of a stay in New York. In the art scene there, he was inspired by the spontaneous and expressive elements of the paintings of that time.

​

After his time in New York, he pursued an international career in the fashion and design industries before turning his full attention back to painting and developing his signature style.

​

His dynamic and distinctive portrayal of the human figure—marked by longing, freedom, and alienation—reflects the extremes of our time. Bodies captured alone, gathered in quiet groups, or trapped in crowds—move from a state of contemplation and serenity toward forces brimming with energy— frozen in space and time.

Michael Kopplstätter has exhibited in international solo and group shows, including museum exhibitions. His works are featured in international collections.

 

In his works, Michael Kopplstätter leaves a vague sense of what lies beneath the surface with his partial blurring between static and blurred planes. This probably describes best his own personality.
